From Computer Operator to Education Officer: Minister Responds to Promotion Controversy
Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haq Milon and State Minister Bobby Hajjaj have said they were unaware of the recent promotion of 82 staff members to the post of Assistant Upazila Secondary Education Officer (ATEO) under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (Maushi).
The minister made the comment in response to a journalist’s question after the Junior Scholarship results handover at the Secretariat on Wednesday (25 February). The question was: “If computer operators are promoted to Assistant Upazila Education Officer posts, how will quality education be ensured?”
Replying, the minister said: “We don’t know anything about this. Where did you get this from? Which department issued it?” After being informed about the gazette, he added: “Has this happened in our secondary section? We have no knowledge of this.”
He further said: “Since you have brought it to our attention, we missed it somehow. We don’t know what happened in the administration. We will investigate this and review the matter.”
The 82 promoted officials were previously in posts such as Stenographer-cum-Computer Operator, Head Assistant, Upper Division Assistant, and Accountant. They were promoted to 10th grade positions through a gazette issued by the Ministry of Education on Monday (23 February).
