JU student Farhana killed in Meherpur road accident

Farhana Wahed Omi, a student of Jahangirnagar University (JU), was killed in a road accident in Meherpur. The incident occurred around 9:30am on Wednesday at Fatepur on the Meherpur-Sholmari road.

Farhana, a fourth-year (2020-21 academic year) student of the English Department, hailed from Hotelbazar area in Meherpur Sadar Upazila.

Her husband Raihanul Islam said they were heading to his in-laws' home in Ramdasipur village on a motorcycle when the accident happened. While attempting to overtake a truck near Fatepur brick kiln, they lost control and crashed into a stack of bricks. Farhana fell under the truck's rear wheel and died on the spot, while Raihanul sustained injuries. Locals rushed them to Meherpur General Hospital.

JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Kamarul Ahsan expressed grief, saying, “I'm deeply shocked by her untimely death. We've lost a family member. I pray for her departed soul and extend condolences to her grieving family.”

JUCSU GS Mazharul Islam said, “We were in the same department. She was very humble. The entire university is saddened. May Allah grant her Jannat.”

Meherpur Sadar Thana OC (Operation) Jahangir Selim said the body and injured were rescued and taken to Meherpur General Hospital. At the family's request, the body was handed over without a post-mortem.
