Dhaka University (DU) formally severed administrative, academic, and financial ties with the government’s seven colleges, transferring all responsibilities, including 2024-25 admission data, photos, and fees, to the proposed Dhaka Central University authority. The handover occurred on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in a ceremony at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, where DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan handed over the duties to Dhaka Central University’s interim administrator, Professor Dr. A.K.M. Elias.

This marks the official end of DU’s affiliation with the seven colleges after eight and a half years. Present at the ceremony were Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sayma Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Science Faculty Dean Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Acting Registrar Munshi Shamsuddin Ahmmad, the Online Admission Committee convener, relevant DU officials, and college principals.

Vice-Chancellor Khan thanked all involved in the “honourable separation” process and wished the proposed university success. The seven colleges—previously under the National University—were affiliated with DU on February 17, 2017.
