In anticipation of the high-stakes football showdown between Argentina and Spain, the Dhaka University (DU) authorities have enforced strict traffic and entry restrictions across the campus perimeter. The emergency directive, issued today (Saturday, July 18) by the Office of the Proctor, aims to ensure the overall safety of students and maintain order during the screening.

According to the official notification, vehicular movement and access for outsiders will be strictly regulated from 6:30 PM tomorrow, Sunday (July 19), until 6:00 AM on Monday (July 20). During this window, no individuals other than current students, faculty members, officers, and staff of Dhaka University will be permitted entry without prior authorization.

Regulated Checkpoints and Exemptions

To enforce these security protocols, the university administration will secure all primary entry points—including Shahbagh, Doel Chatar, Shib Bari Crossing, Fuller Road, and Nilkhet. Only personal vehicles displaying the official Dhaka University logo or registration stickers will be allowed passage through these checkpoints.

However, to prevent public distress, essential and emergency services have been exempted from these restrictions. The following will be allowed entry into the campus:

  • Ambulances and vehicles carrying doctors or patients.

  • On-duty media personnel and journalists.

  • Ride-sharing vehicles, food delivery riders, and online shopping couriers.

  • Essential government logistics vehicles.

All other unauthorized commercial or private vehicles will be barred from entering the campus grounds.

Alternative Routing for Public Commuters

To ease public transit across the capital, the connecting road stretching from Palashi Intersection through Fuller Road, Doel Chatar, and up to the High Court Crossing will remain open to the general public. However, the university administration reiterated that the entry of public buses and heavy transport vehicles along this route and anywhere inside the campus remains strictly prohibited, in line with existing regulations.

The DU administration has requested all teachers, students, employees, and the residents of Dhaka to cooperate fully with law enforcement and university security personnel to ensure a safe, vibrant, and incident-free screening of the final match.
