The body of a Rajshahi University (RU) student was recovered by police today, Wednesday, from an off-campus private residential building. The deceased student was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his rented room at Ayesha Tower, located near the Amjad Mor area adjacent to the campus perimeter.

The victim has been identified as Mahfuzur Rahman, a regular student enrolled under the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the university.

The sudden discovery of the hanging body sent shockwaves through the local student community. Law enforcement authorities and university executives rushed to the building immediately after being alerted by the co-residents of the mess facility. Preliminary physical evidence collected from the scene suggests the incident is likely a case of suicide, though investigators are keeping all possibilities open pending a detailed forensic evaluation.

The university administration arrived at the spot shortly after the police cordon was established to oversee the legal procedures.

"I am currently present at the spot along with the local police and members of the university proctorial body. However, it is not possible to share explicit or comprehensive details surrounding the circumstances at this very moment. We will provide a thorough update on our findings at a later time." — Professor Mahbubur Rahman, Proctor, Rajshahi University

The police have prepared the initial inquest report and are arranging to transport the body to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for an official post-mortem examination. Academic peers and roommates from the building are being questioned by the police to determine if the student was experiencing any severe mental pressure or academic stress in the days leading up to his tragic demise.

A formal statement clarifying the exact cause of death will be released by the police following the receipt of the medical autopsy report.
