DU Assistant Proctor Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan Resigns
Following the resignation of Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Assistant Proctor Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan (Monami) has officially stepped down from her administrative position at Dhaka University (DU). She confirmed the decision via a post on her social media account today, Monday (May 11).
In her announcement, Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan, a lecturer at the university, expressed that serving in such a significant administrative capacity was a unique experience in her seven-year teaching career.
Reflecting on her appointment, Shehreen noted that she had never previously sought administrative roles during her tenures at the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), Jagannath University, or Dhaka University. However, she accepted the challenge on August 28, 2024, following a call from the then-Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed.
"I am just a lecturer, a very ordinary person, yet I was given such a major responsibility usually reserved for senior teachers. It was a chance to do something for my country and my alma mater in a 'New Bangladesh' filled with hope," she wrote in her post.
Shehreen spoke highly of the leadership of the outgoing Proctor, Saifuddin Ahmed, describing him as a mentor who demonstrated "superhuman patience" and the ability to handle volatile situations with a smile. She credited him for protecting students with "mercy and affection" despite having the power to do otherwise.
She further noted that the challenges faced by their team during and after the July movement were unprecedented in the history of the university’s proctorial body.
While the university administration is in the process of stabilizing the proctorial office, Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan extended her well-wishes to the incoming leadership.
"Congratulations to our new Proctor and his team. Wishing this team all the best in carrying out this significant responsibility. It was an absolute honor to serve with my team and under the leadership of our Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed sir," she concluded.
The double resignation within the proctorial body comes amid a broader administrative reshuffle at Dhaka University, as the institution navigates a transitional period under its new Vice-Chancellor.
