Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, the Proctor of Dhaka University (DU), has resigned from his administrative post. He submitted his resignation letter to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. A.B.M. Obaidul Islam, on Sunday (May 10).

Confirming the news to The Daily Campus on Sunday afternoon, Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed cited personal reasons for his decision.

Speaking to The Daily Campus around 2:30 PM, Saifuddin Ahmed said:

"I Want to Rest. I have resigned from the post of Proctor due to personal reasons. I just submitted the resignation letter. At this moment, I want to take some rest, which is why I have made this decision."

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.B.M. Obaidul Islam confirmed receipt of the resignation letter. Regarding the vacancy in the Proctor’s office, the VC told The Daily Campus:

"We have received the Proctor's resignation. We will take a formal decision regarding this matter very soon."

The resignation comes at a time when the university administration is undergoing several structural changes following the recent shift in the national political landscape. Saifuddin Ahmed, an Associate Professor in the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, had been serving as the Proctor during a period of significant campus activity.

The university administration is expected to appoint an acting Proctor or a permanent successor within the next few days to ensure the maintenance of law and order and student discipline on campus.
