The Jagannath University (JnU) administration has temporarily suspended Sadia Sultana Nelly, a general secretary candidate for a hall union from the Chhatra Dal panel, for slapping the Sports Secretary of the Jagannath University Central Student Union (JnUCSU). The decision was confirmed by university sources today, Sunday (May 3).

The incident reportedly occurred during a dispute over the Carrom final of the university’s indoor games. Tensions escalated when allegations were raised that one of the finalist teams violated rules by not consisting of members from the same department. While the matter was being discussed, Nelly allegedly slapped the JnUCSU Sports Secretary, Gorgis Anwar Nayeem.

The physical altercation sparked widespread outrage across the campus. Following two consecutive ultimatums from the Central Student Union demanding justice, the university administration moved to take disciplinary action. In addition to the suspension, a high-level three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident thoroughly.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rais Uddin addressed the matter, stating that the administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward such misconduct. "We will never indulge or downplay such an injustice. A university student can never raise their hand against another student in public; this is an absolute offense. We will not tolerate any form of wrongdoing on this campus," the Vice-Chancellor remarked.

University authorities added that further permanent measures will be determined based on the formal findings and recommendations submitted by the investigation committee.
