A Dhaka University bus named ‘Kshanika’ met with an accident in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area on Wednesday morning (15 April).

The incident occurred around 9:00 AM while the bus was descending from the Karwan Bazar Expressway. A tyre burst caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the accident.

At least 11 students were injured. They were rescued and rushed to different hospitals for treatment. Among them, three students with head injuries were taken to Shomrity Hospital. Others were admitted to Holy Family Hospital, Insaf Baraka Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, University Medical Centre, and Ibn Sina Hospital.

DUCSU Transport Secretary Asif Abdullah confirmed the incident and said immediate medical support was being provided to the injured students.

Sadiq Kayem, another DUCSU leader, strongly criticised the university administration, saying they had repeatedly demanded the replacement of unfit buses after taking office. “The administration showed extreme negligence. Today’s accident is a result of that negligence,” he said.

He added that they have already spoken with the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Treasurer and will continue pressing for the replacement of all unfit buses to ensure student safety.

The injured students are under treatment, and DUCSU is monitoring the situation closely.
