Dhaka University Result Website Hacked, Shows Online Gambling Messages
A section of Dhaka University’s (DU) central website linked to results has been compromised, according to complaints from students. When searching on Google, a message in Thai language appears below the URL, promoting online gambling.
However, university officials have described the incident as a malware attack rather than a full-scale hack.
The affected subdomain is https://result.du.ac.bd. Although users can still search for results by entering exam details, a suspicious Thai-language advertisement promoting an online gaming app (with a WhatsApp sharing link) is visible at the bottom of the page.
It has been revealed that at least eight passwords related to the website were leaked in 2025 by hackers. These reportedly include access control passwords. Student emails, passwords, mobile numbers, and university staff contact details were also exposed.
Students have been discussing the issue on university-related Facebook groups since Monday (13 April) morning, raising questions about the security of such an important platform of the country’s top university.
Md. Sadiq Sarwar, Computer Programmer at the university’s ICT Cell, told The Daily Campus that the affected site is managed by the Office of the Controller of Examinations and is not directly connected to the central server. “Such attacks happen from time to time on various departmental sites,” he said.
He added that the university is working on bringing all websites under central ICT control, but it will take time.
Md. Jahidul Islam, Programmer at the Controller’s Office, said they were not previously aware of the issue. “This is a malware attack. We are looking into it and will take necessary steps,” he added.
The university’s Deputy Controller of Examinations, Md. Roknuzzaman, referred questions to the programmers.
