‘Red Card’ Protest at RU Targets Lawyer Shishir Monir Over Abrar Fahad Case

A section of students at Rajshahi University staged a strong protest and showed a symbolic red card to senior Supreme Court lawyer Shishir Monir for defending the accused in the Buet student Abrar Fahad murder case.

The protest took place on Monday (6 April) at around 4:00 PM on Paris Road of the campus. Later, the students brought out a procession that ended at the transportation square.

During the demonstration, students chanted slogans such as:

• “Shishir Monir, Shishir Monir — Fraud, Fraud!” (Bhua, Bhua)
• “RUCSU, RUCSU — Fraud, Fraud!”
• “Fuad, Fuad — Fraud, Fraud!”
• “Red Card from Rabians!”

Student Mehedi Hasan (2020-21 session) said, “Barrister Fuad is a lawyer who does not believe in the law or the spirit of the Liberation War. He has made derogatory remarks about our Liberation War. We strongly reject RUCSU’s shameful programme of bringing such people to the university, especially at the Intellectuals’ Memorial.”

Another student declared, “We officially announce Barrister Fuad as unwelcome on Rajshahi University soil. There is no place in this land for agents of Razakars, Al-Badr, and Al-Shams forces. Those who defend the killers of martyrs like Abrar Fahad are not welcome here.”
