DU VC calls sudden “special” press briefing today amid resignation rumors
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan has convened a “special” press conference for 3 p.m. today, Tuesday (10 February), in the Prof. Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom beside the VC’s office, according to a morning notice from DU Public Relations Director Mohammad Rafiqul Islam. A registrar’s office official said the media call was made on short notice and the VC will speak himself.
Speculation on campus about his possible resignation had already surfaced, previously linked to talk around an overseas trip. One university source called the rumor baseless but noted that with the election two days away, Dr. Niaz may say he will leave his continuation to the next government’s discretion — staying if asked, stepping aside if not. The precise purpose of the briefing is known only to the VC.
