An Election Commission notice banning mobile phones within 400 yards of polling centres for the 13th National Parliament election and the referendum has sparked anger among party activists and voters. Joining the critics, Sheikh Tanvir Bari Hamim—Jasim Uddin Hall convener of JCD and a DUCSU GS candidate—wrote on Facebook on Monday (9 February) that the decision “reminds me of Hasina’s election kept in the museum.”

He added that if phones were allowed at centres, “the party already caught making fake seals would find it harder to carry out such work,” and those lying in wait to commit irregularities would face difficulties. “Is that why this rule has been issued?” he asked. Hamim warned, “We united Bangladeshis will not accept the slightest delay, any kind of fraud, or any stain on this election.”
