Islamic University Suspends 30 Teachers, Expels 33 Students for Anti-July Uprising Roles
Islamic University (IU) administration has temporarily suspended 19 teachers and 11 officers-employees, totaling 30, for their alleged opposition to the July-August uprising. In a related decision, 33 former and current students affiliated with Chhatra League politics have been expelled and had their certificates revoked. The actions were taken at the 271st Syndicate meeting on Thursday afternoon.
Sources said the suspensions were for their roles against the uprising, with a punishment determination committee to be formed by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah to decide final measures.
The 33 students, including those who had completed studies, had their certificates canceled, while current ones were expelled. Earlier, on March 15, a five-member probe committee was formed to identify those involved in anti-uprising activities.
Chaired by Prof Dr Akhtar Hossain from Al-Hadis and Islamic Studies Department, the committee relied on eyewitness accounts, videos, photos, and media reports to pin the 30 staff and 33 students.
