North South University (NSU) has permanently expelled student Apurba Pal for desecrating the Holy Quran on campus, following an emergency Discipline Committee meeting on Sunday.

A press release signed by Director of Public Relations Syed Mansur Hashim confirmed the decision, stating the university will file a case against him. Police have already arrested Apurba.

The incident occurred Saturday (October 4), when witnesses caught Apurba desecrating the Quran inside the campus.

The proctorial body and security swiftly controlled the situation, with students demonstrating remarkable restraint to maintain peace and harmony.

Videos of the act went viral on social media, with allegations that Apurba uploaded them himself from his Facebook account, intensifying calls for his arrest.

Late Saturday night, around 1:00 AM, students and locals gathered at his residence in Bashundhara Residential Area, protesting and demanding justice.

When police attempted to take him into custody, the crowd assaulted him before he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

NSU authorities praised the students' composure, noting no major violence erupted despite the provocation.

The expulsion and arrest underscore rising campus sensitivities around religious matters, with investigations ongoing into the videos' origins.
