UAP Students Launch Campaign for Affordable Medicines, Advocate for Healthcare Access

The Ingenious Marketing Club of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) initiated a powerful awareness campaign titled “Advocating for Citizens’ Right to Affordable Medicines” on Sunday, addressing the critical issue of escalating drug prices and limited access to essential healthcare in Bangladesh.
The day-long event, held at UAP Plaza, commenced with an inauguration ceremony graced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, Adviser to the VC Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, and Professor Dr. M. A. Baqui Khalily, Dean of the School of Business.
In his opening address, Vice Chancellor Dr. Ahsan emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare, stating, “Access to affordable medicines is not merely an economic concern; it is a fundamental right. I am immensely proud of our students for leveraging their marketing skills to drive social impact and raise awareness on this pressing issue.”
The campaign saw robust participation, with over 60 teams registering and more than 40 submitting innovative ideas to tackle the issue. Eight teams progressed to the final round, showcasing their concepts through interactive stalls, presentations, and live demonstrations during the event.
Dean Dr. Khalily praised the students’ efforts, noting, “This initiative reflects the true essence of education—serving society. These students have demonstrated that marketing can transcend profit motives and champion social responsibility and values.”
The closing ceremony was attended by Architect Mahbuba Haque, Chairperson of the UAP Board of Trustees, as the chief guest. She commended the students’ commitment, saying, “The affordability of medicines impacts every household in Bangladesh. By highlighting this issue, you have shown remarkable leadership and empathy. I urge you to continue using your knowledge for societal good.”
The top three teams were awarded prizes for their creative and impactful contributions to the campaign’s core message. Faculty members, including Mr. Sarwar Razzaq Chowdhury, Associate Professor and Head, and Professor Dr. Shamsad Ahmed, were also present at the event.
The Ingenious Marketing Club has consistently championed social causes through marketing-driven initiatives, with past campaigns focusing on anti-drug awareness and anti-harassment efforts. This latest campaign reinforces the club’s dedication to harnessing marketing for social good.
