North South University Launches New BSS in Sociology Programme for Fall 2026

North South University (NSU) has officially announced the launch of its new undergraduate programme, the Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) in Sociology. Commencing in the upcoming Fall 2026 semester, the programme will be housed under the Department of Political Science and Sociology (PSS) within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The introduction of this new major marks a significant milestone for the institution, particularly as NSU’s Social Science faculty was recently ranked first in Bangladesh in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) 2026 Rankings, highlighting the university's accelerating academic prestige and growing strength in the field.

The four-year honours degree comprises 122 credits and is meticulously structured to strike a balance between rigorous academic depth and curricular flexibility. Designed to blend global sociological perspectives with local Bangladeshi realities, the curriculum addresses critical contemporary themes.

Students will gain core sociological knowledge through classical and contemporary theories, alongside applied sociology skills utilising both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Crucially, the programme places heavy emphasis on:

• Youth movements and public policy

• Sociology of technology, the digital world, and cyber studies

• Population, demography, migration, and diaspora studies
