North South University (NSU), through its NSU Cybersecurity Center, has successfully completed the first cohort of its Cybersecurity Training Program (Course 1), which began on April 17, 2026.

The initiative, supported by the APAC Cybersecurity Fund under The Asia Foundation in partnership with Google.org, received an overwhelming 1,298 applications. From these, 140 participants were selected through a competitive screening process. Due to high demand, the program expanded to run four cohorts. The inaugural cohort alone included 115 students.

Participants came from diverse academic backgrounds, reflecting growing awareness among young learners about the importance of cybersecurity skills in the digital economy.

Course 1 provided a comprehensive introduction to cybersecurity, combining theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on training. It included pre-assessments, intensive sessions, and post-session evaluations. Students worked on real-world scenarios covering threat detection, risk mitigation, and digital defense strategies.

The training was delivered by experienced faculty members and lab instructors from NSU, who maintained a dynamic and interactive learning environment.

Organizers noted that the strong response highlights a significant gap in cybersecurity education and the urgent need for more scalable training programs. Such initiatives are essential for building individual capacity and strengthening the country’s overall digital resilience.

With additional cohorts planned in the coming weeks, the NSU Cybersecurity Center aims to expand its reach further. The successful launch of the first cohorts has laid a solid foundation for future programs, positioning NSU as a key player in cybersecurity education and workforce development in the region.
