IUB 26th Convocation: 2,496 Degrees Conferred Amid Calls for Social Justice
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) celebrated its 26th Convocation today at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) with a total of 2,496 students receiving their hard-earned degrees. The ceremony was a blend of academic achievement and a stirring call for social responsibility, featuring prominent voices from the government and civil society.
Representing the President and Chancellor, Prof. Dr. C R Abrar, Adviser to the Ministry of Education, conferred the certificates. The guest list also included UGC Chairman Prof. Dr. SMA Faiz as Guest of Honor, and acclaimed activist Dr. Shahidul Alam as the Convocation Speaker.

1. Top Academic Awards (Gold Medals):

Chancellor’s Gold Medal: Awarded to Sajid Bin Mohammad (Marketing—also named the Valedictorian), Tasnuva Mahmood (Accounting), Asadullah Ibn Masood and Zahra Alam Liya (Environmental Science and Management), and Nazmoon Nahar (Pharmacy).

All-Rounder Gold Medal: Conferred upon Ahmad Tousif Jami (Global Studies and Governance) for maintaining top-tier grades while leading diverse co-curricular initiatives.

The convocation was marked by powerful rhetoric regarding the role of the "enlightened class" in post-uprising Bangladesh.

Dr. Shahidul Alam delivered a poignant speech, stating that a privileged life has little value unless graduates work to include those often "erased from partisan history." He mentioned Gaza, garment workers, and the students who shed blood in recent movements as reminders of the debt the educated class owes to society.

Prof. Dr. M. Tamim, Vice Chancellor of IUB, challenged the graduates to be "problem-solvers" for modern crises like climate change and energy security, which "cannot be solved by routine thinking."

Didar A Husain, Chairman of the IUB Board of Trustees, emphasized the collective effort of the faculty in preparing this cohort to "take on any challenge."
