Global tech giant Starlink has officially launched its services in Bangladesh, introducing two internet packages priced at BDT 4,200 and BDT 6,000. The service comes with no data limit, and multiple users can share a single connection. However, the more users connected at once, the slower the speed will become.

This information was shared on Tuesday, May 20, by Fayez Ahmad Tayyeb, Special Assistant on Posts, Telecommunications, and ICT Affairs to the Chief Advisor. In a Facebook post, he stated:

“Starlink has officially launched in Bangladesh. They informed me via a phone call yesterday afternoon and confirmed the launch on their X (formerly Twitter) handle this morning.”

He added:

“Starlink is starting with two packages—Starlink Residential and Residential Lite—priced at BDT 6,000 and BDT 4,200, respectively. A one-time equipment setup cost of BDT 47,000 is required.”

Fayez further mentioned that Bangladeshi customers can start placing orders from today, fulfilling the Chief Advisor's vision of launching the service within 90 days. He also noted that the Chief Advisor has congratulated all stakeholders involved in making the launch possible.

In a comment on the post, a user named Ashik asked, “How many people can use one connection at the same time?”
Fayez replied:

“There’s no user limit, but speed will decrease with more users.”

When asked whether the BDT 47,000 equipment cost is too high, Fayez responded:

“For digital entrepreneurs and rural market vendors, this cost is nothing. They’ll resell Wi-Fi. Even now, many telecom companies provide just 300 Mbps bandwidth for an entire tower, serving thousands of users. In comparison, this is a viable alternative for just BDT 47,000. Your perspective is individual-based, but we think in terms of scaling business opportunities.”

Responding to a question about whether Starlink will function as a completely independent satellite network in Bangladesh or if the government will control it via ground stations, he clarified:

“There are security measures in place. A local gateway and ground station will be established, and the commercial test run is currently ongoing.”
