The commercial operations of the state-of-the-art “Tourism Motel and Youth Inn” in Bagerhat have begun, marking a significant step in expanding the region’s tourism industry. The motel was inaugurated on Friday, May 9, 2025, by Nasimul Gani, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry, who joined the ceremony virtually.

The event was chaired by Miz Shahina Sultana, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation. Notable attendees included Nasreen Jahan, Secretary of the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, and Additional Secretary Fatema Rahim Bhina as special guests.

Nasreen Jahan stated that Bagerhat is being transformed into an international tourism hub centered around two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Sundarbans and the Sixty Dome Mosque. To support this vision, the “Tourism Motel and Youth Inn” was constructed near the main gate of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (RA) Mazar Sharif to cater to both domestic and international tourists.

She further noted that this modern motel will play a vital role in boosting Bagerhat’s tourism industry while contributing to the growth of the country’s GDP through tourism development.

Other speakers at the event included former secretaries Dr. Mashiur Rahman and Dr. Faridul Islam, Bagerhat’s District Administrator Ahmed Kamrul Hasan, Police Superintendent Touhidul Arif, BNP Central Committee’s Research Secretary Agriculturist Shamimur Rahman Shamim, Bagerhat District BNP Convener ATM Akram Hossain Talim, former president MA Salam, Bagerhat District Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Maulana Md. Rezaul Karim, Bagerhat Press Club President Md. Kamruzzaman and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leader Saddam Hossain, among others.

Following the inauguration, guests unveiled the plaque and cut a ribbon to formally enter the motel.

Construction of the motel began in 2017 on 32 decimals of land in Ranbijoypur, near the main gate of Khan Jahan Ali (RA) Mazar. Although slated for completion in June 2021, delays due to multiple work stoppages and changes in contractors pushed the project’s completion to early 2025, at a cost of approximately BDT 130 million.

The seven-story building features 30 rooms, a 50-seat restaurant, office spaces, a reception area, a barbecue room, and parking facilities. The total area of the building spans 2,760 square meters.[](https://toursntripsbd.com/tours/bagerhat-and-sundarbans-tour/)
