Bangladesh women’s national football team suffered their second consecutive defeat at the 20th Asian Games, losing 6-0 to South Korea in their Group F match at Nagai Stadium in Osaka, Japan, on Thursday.

Minji Kim opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Jeong Dabin doubled South Korea’s lead shortly before half-time in the 42nd minute.

Yuri Choe extended the lead in the 65th minute, followed by goals from Soyun Ji in the 77th, Seulgi Hyun in the 79th and Yoojin Ko in the first minute of stoppage time.

The defeat came three days after Bangladesh suffered a 10-0 loss to North Korea in their opening Group F match on September 14.

Bangladesh still have a chance to reach the knockout stage as one of the two best third-placed teams, depending on their result against Myanmar in their final group match on September 21.

The tournament’s knockout stage will feature the top two teams from each group along with the two best third-placed teams from the 12-team group stage.

Bangladesh made their Asian Games women’s football debut in 2022 under coach Saiful Bari Titu. They lost 8-0 to defending champions Japan and 6-1 to Vietnam before drawing 1-1 with Nepal.
