Prof. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem Appointed New VC of CUET

Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem, a senior faculty member of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Head of the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

The Ministry of Education's Secondary and Higher Education Division issued a gazette notification on Monday (July 27) confirming the appointment, signed by Joint Secretary Kazi Nurul Islam of the Scholarship and Engineering University Branch.

The appointment was made with the approval of the President and Chancellor in accordance with Section 10(1) of the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology Act, 2003.

According to the official order, Prof. Sayem's appointment will be effective for a four-year term from the date of joining or until his retirement age, whichever occurs first. As the chief executive officer of the university, he is mandated to reside full-time on campus and will draw pay and allowances equivalent to his substantive post alongside standard position-related benefits.

Expressing his vision following the appointment, Dr. Sayem reaffirmed his dedication to his alma mater and its student body.

"I wanted to stand beside our students and spread CUET's name across the global stage. If my achievements do not serve the students or the institution that gave me my identity as an engineer, then those accomplishments hold little value," he stated, seeking comprehensive cooperation from the entire CUET community to advance the university's academic standing.
