Dr. Md. Khairul Islam Appointed New Vice-Chancellor of SUST

Professor Dr. Md. Khairul Islam has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). Prior to this apex administrative assignment, he was serving as the Head of the Department of Business Administration at the same institution. The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued an official gazette notification today, Saturday, confirming the appointment under a statutory order signed by Assistant Secretary Md. Shah Alam Siraj.

According to the executive directive, the appointment was executed in accordance with Section 11 (1) of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Act, 1987. The notification specified that Professor Dr. Md. Khairul Islam, who holds a PhD in Marketing, is the current Head of the Department of Business Administration, and a former Dean of the School of Management and Business Administration at SUST, Sylhet, will assume the post of Vice-Chancellor under five distinct statutory conditions.

The Ministry of Education outlined that his tenure will span a definitive period of four years effective from his official date of joining, or until his mandatory date of retirement, whichever occurs earlier. During this period, he will draw a monthly salary and financial allowances equivalent to his substantive original academic post, while remaining entitled to all other institutional perks tied to the vice-chancellorship according to university service rules.

Furthermore, as the Chief Executive Officer of the university, he is required to maintain full-time physical residency within the campus perimeter. The order also notes that the Honorable President and Chancellor of the university retains the supreme authority to revoke the appointment at any given time if deemed necessary.
