Education Minister Questions 'Meeting Resolution Misinterpretations' on NTRCA Issue

Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon has addressed recent controversies surrounding the NTRCA issue and university student protests. Speaking on Tuesday, August 11, at the BARK Auditorium in Dhaka, he criticized the premature agitation sparked by leaked meeting resolution discussions.

The minister clarified that a mere discussion or resolution in a meeting does not constitute a final ministerial, state, or government decision. He expressed frustration that unverified snippets were published in the media, leading university students in Dhaka, Jahangirnagar, and Jagannath to launch protests based on rumors.

Shifting focus to structural challenges, Dr. Milon highlighted massive teacher shortages across the country's educational institutions. He noted an acute deficit of 38,000 headmasters in primary schools and 12,000 teachers in government institutions.

The total teacher shortage stands at 50,000 in primary schools alongside 77,000 vacancies in MPO-enlisted schools and colleges. The minister emphasized that these systemic deficits are long-standing institutional issues rather than developments of the past five months.
