Rampura 28 killings: Colonel Redowan, Major Rafat produced before ICT
Two army officers accused in the Rampura massacre case were brought before the International Crimes Tribunal-1 this morning under heavy security.
Lieutenant Colonel Redowanul Islam (former BGB) and Major Md Rafat Bin Alam Mun were produced at around 9:30am on Monday (24 November) ahead of the formal hearing.
The three-member bench is headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumdar, with Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired District & Sessions Judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury as members.
On 8 October, the tribunal formally accepted charges against four individuals for the killing of 28 people in Rampura during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in July–August 2024. Arrest warrants were issued the same day.
The other two accused are:
- Former ADC (Khilgaon zone, DMP) Md Rashedul Islam
- Former OC Rampura PS Md Mashiur Rahman
The prosecution alleges that law-enforcement personnel, led by the accused, opened fire on protesters in Rampura, killing 28 and injuring many others. Video evidence reportedly shows Lt Col Redowanul directly firing on demonstrators.
Both Redowanul and Rafat are currently in custody. The tribunal area remains under tight security. The hearing is set to begin shortly.
