Threats from Indian numbers to prosecution team: No mercy if Hasina is hanged
Members of the prosecution team, including Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, have reported receiving threats over phone from Indian numbers.
Team members said threats and abuses have been coming since Sunday night. "We have all been threatened repeatedly," one said.
Prosecutor Tareq Abdullah said, "Threat calls started from yesterday evening from unknown numbers. Today also I received several calls, most using Indian country code. They threatened that if Sheikh Hasina is punished, no one in our team will be spared."
Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam said, "I received countless calls. At one point I had to switch off my phone. Same language, same words. They said if the leader is punished, they will end our lives."
Tajul Islam added, "This is the language of cowards, traitors and mass killers. There is nothing to worry about these." The threats have raised new concerns for the team's safety amid heightened security in Dhaka ahead of the International Crimes Tribunal verdict on Hasina.
