The individual killed in a shooting in front of Dhaka National Medical College Hospital in Sutrapur has been identified as Tariq Saif Mamun (52), a "top criminal" with multiple murder cases pending against him, according to police. Miscreants opened fire and fled around 11:00am today, Monday, leaving him critically injured.

Mamun, son of SM Iqbal from Mubarak Colony in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a dying state. Doctors declared him dead around 11:45am.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Lalbagh Zone Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ahsan Uddin Sami said, "Those who fired are being hunted. Mamun was a listed top criminal."

His acquaintance Faizul Haq Apu received a call from Mamun's phone around 11:00am and rushed from Kakrail to Dhaka Medical to identify him. "Mamun was a businessman. We met in Gazipur earlier," Apu said.

National Medical College Ward Master Mahibullah said, "Around 11:00am, we heard gunfire. We found him bleeding on the road in front of the main gate. We brought him to our hospital. His condition worsened, so we sent him to Dhaka Medical, where doctors declared him dead."

DMP Kotwali Zone Additional Commissioner (AC) Fazlul Haque said, "The victim was around 52 years old. He was shot at National Medical and brought to Dhaka Medical. Doctors pronounced him dead at 11:45am."

Police have launched an investigation to trace the gunmen. No motive has been confirmed yet.
