Students of Tejgaon College are staging protests demanding swift arrest of suspects following the death of student Sakibul Hasan Rana, who died from injuries sustained in a clash at the college's dormitory. Additional police have been deployed in front of the college amid concerns of traffic disruption in the Farmgate area due to the demonstration.

On-site observation at 10:30am on Wednesday (17 December) showed additional police deployed at the main gate of Tejgaon College and surrounding areas. Law enforcement personnel were seen maintaining alert positions in front of the college, on the Farmgate-bound road, and in nearby lanes. Students protested at the time, alleging Sakib was murdered.

A protesting student said that even after so many days since the incident, not a single person has been arrested, although the suspects are clearly visible in CCTV footage. He said students are waiting for the college principal and will demand that he file a case disclosing names. If this demand is not met, students will implement a blockade programme, he added.

Earlier, on Saturday night (6 December), repeated clashes occurred between two groups of Chhatra Dal at Tejgaon College dormitory over drug consumption and control. Three people were critically injured and admitted to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

The three injured were Sakibul Hasan Rana (Science Department, Session 2024-25), Hridoy Ahmed (Humanities Department, Session 2024-25), and Jannat, a student of Ideal College (Humanities Department, Session 2025-26). Allegations suggest that Jannat was residing at Tejgaon College dormitory with the support of an influential Chhatra Dal group.

Dormitory students alleged that Momen Paloan, an active member of the Tarun-Selim group, was previously involved in politics with the now-banned Chhatra League. He is currently using the influence of the Tarun group to dominate the campus and dormitory, and is also accused of being involved in drug consumption and various misdeeds with outsiders.
