SSC and HSC Exams to Conclude by December; University Admissions to Follow Immediately
The government is planning to restructure the academic calendar to ensure that both SSC and HSC examinations are completed by December each year. Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Haq Milan announced that university admissions will take place immediately following the swift publication of board results to eliminate session jams.
In a recent interview with a private satellite television channel, the Minister emphasized that December will be designated as the final month of the academic calendar for all board examinations. The primary goal is to ensure students complete their syllabus, curriculum requirements, and final exams within the calendar year.
Minister Milan explained that finishing exams by December would allow secondary school admissions to take place in January, ensuring a seamless two-year cycle for both the SSC and HSC curriculums. "By finalizing exams in December, we can ensure students pass their SSC at 16 and HSC at 18, moving directly into higher education without any delay," he stated.
The Minister noted that the success of this transition depends on the timely completion of the syllabus. While the government aims to implement this new schedule as early as 2027, the exact timeline will be finalized after evaluating curriculum readiness.
The Minister underscored that the specific year of implementation—whether 2026, 2027, or beyond—is secondary to the importance of having a robust plan. The core objective is to align the academic year with the calendar year, ensuring that all educational requirements are met by December.
"We must first decide what we want for our education system. Our plan is to end the academic year in December and complete all assessments within that timeframe," the Minister added. This initiative is expected to bring much-needed stability to the country's education sector and streamline the transition from school to university for millions of students.
