Education and Primary & Mass Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has said that university teachers whose children cannot pass the admission test should resign from their posts.

The minister made the remark on Sunday (12 April) while addressing a meeting with centre secretaries at Azimpur Government Girls’ School and College auditorium in Dhaka.

He said many teachers and officials in the education boards and the ministry seek quotas for their children to get them admitted into reputed institutions. “This will not be tolerated,” he added.

The minister further stated, “Often we hear that a teacher’s son has been admitted to a university through the waiting list. But no one really knows how it actually happened.”

He also pointed out the declining standard of education, saying that in the past, district schools had excellent quality and even the children of DCs and SPs studied there. “Now they don’t. The UNO, who oversees education in the upazila, does not send his own child to the local school. Even school teachers don’t send their children to their own schools. This is shameful for teachers,” he said.
