Mostafizur Rahman Mishu. This first-year student of the Urdu department at Dhaka University (DU) is known on social media as ‘English Boy Mostafizur’. He gained fame by uploading videos speaking in English on Facebook, though many mock him for it. A few days ago, his English-language azan triggered widespread discussion and criticism on Facebook.

This time, he has gone viral over reports of being ‘caught giving proxy in admission test’. News spread on social media that he was detained on Saturday (January 10) while appearing for the admission test at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).

On the other hand, Mostafizur has claimed that he went to BUP to sit for the second-time exam. However, due to a mistake in the exam hall, the roll number of the candidate sitting behind him matched his own. The invigilators then asked what he had done. The incident was a misunderstanding, but it has been presented differently on social media.

Following the incident, reports emerged that he had been detained. However, around midnight, he came live on his own Facebook page and said, I am safe. Everyone wanted to know, so I came on live.

Mostafizur is a resident student of the university’s Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall. When contacted, hall provost Professor Dr Faruk Shah told The Daily Campus, I have heard of such an incident. But I do not know the details.

A source from BUP informed The Daily Campus that an incident of this kind took place during Saturday’s admission test.
