After several days of uncertainty and complications surrounding the admission process for the 2024-25 academic year, Dhaka Central University (formerly Kabi Nazrul Government College) officially started admitting students on Wednesday (19 November), bringing much-needed relief to hundreds of freshers.

Students arriving at various departments from around 10:30 am initially faced delays as some teachers reportedly hesitated to process admissions. The situation was resolved after the college principal, Prof Mohammad Habibur Rahman, personally visited the departments and directed staff to begin the process immediately in line with instructions from the Ministry of Education.

Rabiul Islam, a student of the Political Science department, said, “For the last few days we kept coming to campus but had to return without getting admitted. Today the process finally started. After days of frustration, I feel a huge sense of relief and joy now that I’ve been admitted.”

Principal Prof Mohammad Habibur Rahman told reporters, “We had some shortcomings in paperwork and preparation, but we have completed everything and started the admission process today as per the ministry’s directive. We hope there will be no further problems. We are doing everything possible to ensure students face no difficulties and can start their classes smoothly. We are fully prepared for that.”

When asked about the start of classes, he said, “According to the ministry’s instructions, classes are scheduled to begin on 23 November. However, this depends on the ongoing teachers’ strike. If the strike continues for a long time, we will have to consider alternative arrangements for starting classes.”
