20 Passengers Injured as Bus Plunges into Ditch in Gopalganj

At least 20 passengers were injured after a passenger bus veered off the road and plunged into a roadside ditch in Tungipara, Gopalganj. The injured were rescued and admitted to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital and Tungipara Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

The accident occurred on Wednesday (April 29) afternoon at the Maleker Bazar area on the Gopalganj-Pirojpur regional highway. Shiplu Ahmed, Deputy Assistant Director of Gopalganj Fire Service, confirmed the details of the incident.

According to fire service officials, a Dhaka-bound 'Emad Paribahan' bus coming from Pirojpur was traveling at high speed when it attempted to overtake another passenger bus, 'Welcome Paribahan,' in the Malek Bazar area. During the high-speed maneuver, the driver of the Emad Paribahan bus lost control, causing the vehicle to skid off the highway into a ditch.

Upon receiving the news, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and conducted a rescue operation with the help of locals. While the injuries range in severity, no fatalities have been reported so far. Police stated that the driver and his assistant fled the scene immediately after the crash, and efforts are underway to seize the vehicle.
