Another Victim of Chattogram Gas Explosion Dies in Dhaka Hospital

Md Shaown, 16, who suffered 50% burn injuries in Monday's gas explosion at a Halishahar flat in Chattogram, died at around 7:00 am today (Tuesday) at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Resident physician Shawon Bin Rahman confirmed the death and said the remaining seven injured patients are in critical condition in the burn unit.

Earlier on Monday, Shaown's mother Nurjahan Begum Rani (declared dead on arrival) had suffered 100% burns.

Other injured include:

  • Ashura Akhtar Pakhi (30) and Md Sakhawat Hossain (49) — 100% burns each
  • Md Shipon Hossain (31) — 80% burns
  • Ayesha Akhtar (4) and Samir Ahmed (40) — 45% burns each
  • Umme Ayman Snigdha (10) — 38% burns
  • Farhan Ahmed Anas (6) — 30% burns

The explosion occurred around 5:00 am on Monday, reportedly due to accumulated gas in the kitchen of the second-floor flat in Halima Manjil, Halishahar. Nine family members, including three children, were injured. They were first taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital and later referred to Dhaka for specialized burn treatment.
