Some Officials in Administration Covertly Supporting Mob: Information Minister
Information Minister Md. Zahir Uddin Swapon has alleged that a certain section within the administration is secretly patronizing mobs. He made the comment as chief guest at a program organized by the Barishal District Administration on Saturday (21 February) to mark Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.
The minister said: “No democracy can function in a country without independent media. Media cannot practice freedom without accountability. Merely rebelling against injustice is not enough; we must have a plan to build the beautiful society we desire.”
He further stated: “We have observed a certain group trying to give shelter to mobs. Many in important administrative positions are secretly patronizing mobs. We have taken the responsibility of running the government, and we have all kinds of information.”
Zahir Uddin Swapon added: “The cabinet under Tarique Rahman's leadership knows how to run the government. If there are such problems within the administration, we will identify them and clarify them to the public through the media.”
He emphasized: “Accountability to the people is the ultimate truth, and preparing Bangladesh for the people is our only task.”
Regarding the national election, he said: “We gained a lot of experience in this national election. We noticed that the voting environment was unnecessarily disrupted without any reason. We will initiate an investigation into why and how it happened. Because we always want free, fair, and neutral elections in the future.”
