The 2026 calendar brings multiple attractive long-break opportunities for government employees. According to the calendar calculation, with just a few extra days of leave, government officials and staff can enjoy a continuous 7-day holiday in March and a continuous 10-day holiday in May.

As per the gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on 9 November last year, in 2026 there will be 14 general holidays and 14 holidays by executive order, making a total of 28 days of holiday. However, since 9 of these days fall on weekly holidays (Friday and Saturday), the actual working days off will be 19. Besides, the provision for optional holidays fixed for various religious occasions will also remain effective in all government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions across the country.

Major Opportunity for 7-Day Consecutive Holiday in March

According to the gazette, Jumatul Bida will fall on Friday 20 March, and the holy Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Saturday 21 March subject to moon sighting. The four days of holiday by executive order before and after Eid will combine to give a total of 5 days of holiday. Just before that, the Shab-e-Qadr holiday is fixed on 17 March.

As a result, if government employees take only one additional day of leave on Wednesday 18 March, they will be able to enjoy a continuous 7-day holiday.

Additionally, since Independence Day falls on Thursday 26 March, the following two days will be weekly holidays. Thus, taking leave on either 25 March or 29 March will provide a continuous 4-day break, while even without taking any extra leave, a continuous 3-day respite will be available.

Big Break of 10 Consecutive Days in May

Subject to moon sighting, the holy Eid-ul-Azha will be observed on Thursday 28 May. There are 6 days of holiday fixed by executive order before Eid on 26 and 27 May and after Eid on 29, 30, and 31 May. Just before that, 22 and 23 May are Friday and Saturday weekly holidays.

If any government official or employee can take leave on the two days in between, 24 and 25 May, then combining the weekly holidays, executive order holidays, and Eid holidays, they will be able to enjoy a continuous 10-day holiday.

In a busy working life, these long holidays are expected to bring significant relief and encouragement for government employees.
