Teachers’ House Rent Allowance Hike at 5% Under Discussion: Education Adviser

Education Ministry Adviser Professor Dr. C R Abrar has said, “Teachers are the soul of our education system. I have consistently advocated for enhancing their salaries, training, and dignity. My cabinet colleagues are also sympathetic to this cause.”
Speaking at a press conference at the Education Ministry on Thursday, he addressed the ongoing demands of teachers’ organisations for a 20% house rent allowance increase, among others. He said, “Given the government’s financial realities, a 5% increase (minimum Tk 2,000) is currently under discussion.”
He added, “I am confident that with the new pay commission’s recommendations, we can move towards a more dignified framework next year. The government is respectful and sensitive to teachers’ demands for percentage-based house rent allowances.”
Professor Dr. Abrar further stated, “The government is actively considering percentage-based house rent provisions within its capacity. Simultaneously, we are working to modernise teachers’ professional development and training systems, as salary alone is not enough—dignity and capability are equally vital.”
