NCTB Transfers Nine Officials Amid Textbook Image Controversy
The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) is facing growing unrest following controversies over images in textbooks for the 2027 academic year. Nine officials of the government agency have now been transferred in a single move, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Education on Monday, October 26.
All nine officials are members of the BCS Education cadre. They have been transferred from the NCTB to various government colleges.
The notification states that the transferred officials must be released from their current workplaces by October 29. Otherwise, they will be considered automatically released with effect from the afternoon of that date. The officials have also been instructed to log in to their respective Personnel Data Sheets (PDS) and complete the release and joining procedures.
Earlier, on Sunday, October 25, another NCTB official, Md Abdullah Al Zubayer, was transferred to Khagrachhari Government Women's College as a lecturer in political science. The transfer was announced in a notification issued by the Ministry of Education following the controversy over the inclusion of a balance-scale image in a textbook.
However, Md Abdul Mumin Mosabbir, the expert primarily responsible for the Bangla textbooks for Classes One and Two involved in the boat-symbol controversy, and Md Rakibur Rahman, the expert responsible for the Class Three Bangla textbook, have not been transferred.
