Four new subjects to be added to Class 4 and 6 curriculum from 2027
Four new subjects focusing on joyful learning, technical education, sports and culture will be added to the academic curriculum for fourth and sixth graders from 2027, Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has said.
He made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday (October 6) after inaugurating the 53rd National Summer Sports Competition at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla.
“Students will be introduced to joyful learning, technical education, sports and culture from Class 4 and Class 6. From 2028, the education programme will also be changed and revised as necessary. More new books will be added when required.”
The minister said the government wants to develop a generation capable of building and leading the Bangladesh of the future. He also claimed that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has allocated the highest-ever budget for education and is giving equal importance to sports alongside education.
Speaking about college admissions, the education minister said students who applied in line with the admission guidelines were admitted. However, many seats remain vacant even after the admission process ended.
“This year, the results were much lower compared with the number of seats available at colleges, which has created some complications.”
Mahdi Amin, adviser to the prime minister and special guest at the event, said fuel prices in Bangladesh have been affected by the war in the Middle East, although diesel remains considerably cheaper in Bangladesh than in neighbouring countries.
“Compared with other countries, Bangladesh is providing the highest level of subsidy to keep fuel oil prices under control. The government is making every effort to deal with the situation. However, the current crisis is global. The government is working to resolve the problem in a reasonable way while keeping the burden on the people as low as possible.”
Housing and Public Works Minister and lawmaker Zakaria Taher Sumon attended the programme as a special guest.
Other invited guests included Madrasa Education Directorate Director General Md Shahadat Hossain, Directorate of Technical Education Director General Abul Khair Mohammad Akkas Ali, Cumilla City Corporation Administrator Md Yusuf Molla Tipu, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Director Md Sakhawat Hossain Khan and Dhaka Education Board Chairman Syed Akhtaruzzaman, along with officials from various government offices.
The event was chaired by Professor Md Ahsan Parvez, chairman of the Cumilla Education Board and president of the organising committee of the 53rd National Summer Sports Competition 2026.
The four-day competition is being attended by around 400 participants from educational institutions under all education boards across the country.
