Primary Teacher Candidates Sit in Front of Shahbagh Police Station Following Police Obstruction

Candidates recommended for government primary school assistant teacher positions under the 2025 recruitment drive staged a sit-in demonstration in front of Shahbagh Police Station and the National Museum on Sunday (August 2) after being blocked by police near the Shahbagh intersection.

The job seekers initially assembled in front of the Dhaka University Central Library on Sunday morning to launch a continuous sit-in program demanding immediate joining and school postings under the Recruitment Rules-2025. When the demonstrators attempted to march toward the main Shahbagh intersection, police erected barricades, prompting the protesters to sit on the road near the police station while holding banners and chanting slogans.

Protesting candidates who arrived in the capital from various districts across the country reiterated that they would persist with their continuous demonstration until formal joining orders and official school postings are executed under the designated recruitment rules.

The protest coincides with an official notification released by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on Sunday. According to the notice issued by the ministry's School-2 branch, the government has set October 1, 2026, as the official joining date for candidates selected under the 'Assistant Teacher Recruitment-2025', instructing them to report to their respective District Primary Education Offices.
