DUCSU teams up for Tk 3cr medical centre upgrade with Turkish aid

The Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) delegation is working on a nearly Tk 3 crore project to modernise the university's medical centre with support from the Turkish cooperation agency TIKA.

The DUCSU team held a courtesy meeting with TIKA Bangladesh Country Co-ordinator Mohammad Ali Arman in this regard.

The meeting took place Wednesday afternoon at TIKA's office in Baridhara.

Both sides expressed optimism about continued collaboration to upgrade the medical facilities at Dhaka University.

As part of the ongoing initiative, TIKA and DUCSU are implementing a Tk 2.75 crore project at the Shaheed Buddhijibi Dr Mohammad Mostafa Medical Centre.

The project includes procuring an ambulance, 10 air conditioners, an X-ray machine, ECG machine, analyzer, microscope, hospital beds, almirahs, chairs and desks, along with comprehensive renovations.

A model pharmacy and emergency unit are also being set up on the ground floor. Significant progress is expected within the next month.

Additionally, TIKA has started medical camp activities for DU students in partnership with the volunteer group Students' Health Initiative for All (SHIFA).

The meeting discussed establishing a wellness garden, noise-free zones, first-aid boxes and free medicine supplies in every department and hall.

Proposals for a Turkey-Bangladesh cultural festival, expanded scholarships and stronger bilateral ties were also exchanged.

TIKA Country Co-ordinator Mohammad Ali Arman and DUCSU VP Sadik Kayem expressed hope for sustained cooperation.

The DUCSU delegation included DUCSU Joint Vice-President Sadik Kayem, Literature and Culture Secretary Musaddek Ali Ibne Muhammad, International Secretary Khan Jashim, Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary Fatema Tasnim Juma, Career Secretary Majharul Islam, Science and Technology Secretary Iqbal Haider, Sports Secretary Arman Hossain, Health and Environment Secretary Abdullah Al Minhaj, and Executive Member Umme Usuatun Rafia.
