JUCSU Election
45-Minute Delay in Voting at 10th Hall Due to Late Ballot Delivery

The Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) and hall union elections kicked off today, Thursday, September 11, at 9:00 am, with voting scheduled to continue until 5:00 pm across 224 booths in the university’s 21 residential halls. Although polling was intended to commence simultaneously across all halls, a delay in the delivery of ballot papers at the 10th Hall, a male student residence, resulted in voting starting approximately 45 minutes late, around 9:45 am.
Abdullah Al Mamun, the officer in charge of the 10th Hall polling centre, informed the media that the late arrival of ballots caused the delay, prompting frustration among students waiting in line at the centre, where 522 students are registered to vote. The election engages a total of 11,897 students, including 6,115 male and 5,728 female students, across 21 polling centres. Voter distribution across male halls includes 210 in Al Beruni Hall, 333 in AFM Kamaluddin Hall, 464 in Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall, 298 in Shahid Salam-Barkat Hall, 514 in Maulana Bhasani Hall, 650 in Shahid Rafiq-Jabbar Hall, 350 in Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore Hall, 735 in the 21st Hall, 992 in Jatiya Kabi Nazrul Islam Hall, and 947 in Tajuddin Ahmad Hall.
For female halls, the voter numbers are 279 in Nawab Faizunnesa Hall, 367 in Jahanara Imam Hall, 396 in Pritilata Hall, 403 in Begum Khaleda Zia Hall, 456 in Sufia Kamal Hall, 519 in the 13th Hall, 571 in the 15th Hall, 956 in Rokeya Hall, 798 in Fazilatunnesa Hall, and 983 in Taraman Bibi Hall. Despite the logistical setback at the 10th Hall, the university is striving to ensure a smooth voting process for this historic election, marking the first JUCSU poll in 33 years.
