DUCSU Election Set for 9 September with Rokeya Hall Leading Voter Count

The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Union elections, inactive for years, are scheduled for 9 September, with the election commission announcing the schedule and voter details on Tuesday, 29 July, at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building’s conference room.
Chief Returning Officer Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, from the Botany Department, announced that voting will take place from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on 9 September across six designated centers, a first for DUCSU elections. The draft voter list, released on 30 July, shows a total of 39,932 voters, with 19,028 female voters (47.65%) and 20,904 male voters (52.35%). Objections to the list can be submitted until 8 August, with the final list due on 11 August at 4:00 pm.
Among female voters, Rokeya Hall leads with 5,676 voters, over 10 times the 559 voters in Salimullah Muslim (SM) Hall, the university’s oldest hall. Other female halls include Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall (4,495 voters), Shamsun Nahar Hall (4,098 voters), Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall (2,108 voters), and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall (2,651 voters). Among male voters, Jagannath Hall has the highest count at 2,254, followed by Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Hall (2,017), Bijoy Ekattor Hall (2,013), Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall (1,961), Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall (1,779), Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall (1,735), Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall (1,600), Masterda Surja Sen Hall (1,495), Sir A.F. Rahman Hall (1,480), Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall (1,394), Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall (1,298), and Amar Ekushey Hall (1,319).

Per the Dhaka University Hall Parliament Constitution, the election will fill 13 positions: Vice President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Literature Secretary, Cultural Secretary, Reading Room Secretary, Indoor Sports Secretary, Outdoor Sports Secretary, Social Welfare Secretary, and four Member posts.
This election marks a significant step toward revitalizing student representation, with Rokeya Hall’s substantial voter base highlighting the growing influence of female students in university governance.
