DU’s 54th convocation on January 26, President and PM to attend
The 54th convocation of the University of Dhaka (DU) will be held on January 26, 2027, with Chancellor and President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir agreeing to attend the ceremony.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam and a university delegation met the president on Sunday (October 4) and invited him to the convocation. The president accepted the invitation, according to a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Office later in the afternoon.
The statement said the vice-chancellor invited the president to attend the 54th convocation as chancellor. The president accepted the invitation and agreed to attend the ceremony, where he is expected to preside.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has already agreed to attend the convocation as the guest of honour, according to the university statement.
During the meeting, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Dhaka University is not only the country’s leading institution of higher education but also a centre of Bangladesh’s politics, history, heritage and culture.
He called on the university authorities and others concerned to improve the quality of education and research and take Dhaka University among the world’s leading universities. He said everyone should work from their respective positions to achieve this goal.
The delegation accompanying the vice-chancellor included DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Mohammad Almojaddeddi Alfesani, and Treasurer Professor Dr M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
