RUCSU GS Ammar was expelled from Shibir in 2025, three letters show

Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar was expelled from the Rajshahi University unit of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir in 2025 for alleged organisational indiscipline, according to three letters issued by the organisation at different times.

The letters show that Ammar’s status as a “Sathi”, a rank within Shibir, was first suspended in February 2025 and later cancelled. The matter came to light publicly on Wednesday (September 30) following a Facebook post by former RU Shibir sports secretary Ahmed Munshi, after which The Daily Campus obtained copies of the three letters.

The first letter, dated February 4, 2025, was signed by then RU Shibir president and RUCSU Vice-President Mostakur Rahman Zahid. It said allegations had emerged against Ammar over alleged “selling of positions” in the Rajshahi metropolitan and district committees of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in exchange for money.

The letter said the allegations had been discussed in detail at the branch’s monthly secretariat meeting on February 3. It said the meeting unanimously decided to suspend Ammar’s Sathi status over allegations of “moral misconduct” and organisational indiscipline, pending further action if the allegations were found to be substantiated.

A second letter, dated September 11, 2025, said Ammar’s Sathi status had been cancelled because he had allegedly engaged in activities contrary to organisational discipline for a prolonged period and had failed to correct his conduct despite repeated warnings.

The third letter, dated July 31, 2026, was signed by current RU Shibir president Mujahid Faisal. It referred to the earlier decision to suspend Ammar and listed allegations including moral misconduct, negligence in performing basic religious practices, inappropriate interactions with women, illegal financial transactions and misappropriation of assets, as well as involvement in activities allegedly contrary to the organisation’s objectives.

The letter said Ammar failed to provide satisfactory responses to the allegations, leading to a decision at the September 2025 monthly secretariat meeting to cancel his Sathi status.

It further alleged that his activities, including alleged involvement in criminal offences in some cases, were creating instability on campus and could push the university towards conflict. The letter instructed Shibir members to refrain from making positive or negative comments or reactions about Ammar’s online and offline activities and requested that organisational personnel sever contact with him, while maintaining only official relations with elected RUCSU officials.

Former Shibir leader questions Ammar’s links

In his Facebook post, former RU Shibir sports secretary Ahmed Munshi also questioned Ammar’s alleged continued links with Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir.

Munshi claimed that if a Jamaat leader provided financial support, it would normally be done through Shibir and questioned whether Jamaat leader Khaliduzzaman was aware that Ammar had been expelled from Shibir or whether Ammar was communicating with him while identifying himself as a current Shibir member.

Ammar was contacted several times by The Daily Campus for comment, but he did not answer the calls. He also did not respond to a subsequent text message seeking his response to the allegations.

Asked about the authenticity of the letters, RU Shibir Secretary Hafiz Mehdi Hasan confirmed that they were genuine and said Ammar had been expelled from Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir in 2025.

Ammar was elected RUCSU general secretary in October 2025 as a candidate of the Unity Against Hegemony panel. He secured 11,497 votes, defeating the Shibir-backed candidate Fazle Rabbi Md Fahim Reza, who received 5,727 votes.
