Several Jagannath University (JnU) faculty members—including Professor Dr. Mohammad Belal Hossain—along with nearly 40 students have become trapped inside the kitchen of National Medical College Hospital in Old Dhaka while visiting students injured in earlier campus clashes.

The incident occurred around 5:30 PM on Tuesday (August 4) at the hospital premises, where injured student representatives, journalists, and student political leaders were receiving medical treatment following violent confrontations between Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Speaking to The Daily Campus from inside the hospital, Professor Dr. Mohammad Belal Hossain of the Department of History issued an urgent plea for intervention:

"Around 40 teachers and students are currently trapped here after coming to check on the injured. Outside, BNP and Chhatra Dal activists are carrying out attacks, forcing us to take shelter inside the hospital kitchen. We are desperately asking for rescue."

Prior to his direct statement, Professor Belal shared an urgent appeal on social media, writing: "I came to see the injured students and ended up trapped in the kitchen of National Hospital after being chased by ruling party activists. I request the government to rescue us."

Faculty members and student groups are currently awaiting law enforcement intervention to ensure their safe evacuation from the medical facility.
