Chhatra Dal Assaults JnUCSU VP, GS, Forces Them Off Campus

Activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) allegedly assaulted Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JnUCSU) Vice President Md. Riazul Islam and General Secretary Abdul Alim Arif, physically forcing them out of the campus following a violent clash between JCD and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir on Tuesday.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday (August 4) following widespread unrest across the campus. Video footage circulating on social media showed several individuals surrounding JnUCSU VP Riazul Islam, escorting him under duress out of the campus grounds before placing him onto a rickshaw. Witnesses confirmed that GS Abdul Alim Arif was similarly assaulted and compelled to leave the premises. Eyewitnesses identified the perpetrators involved in the physical expulsion as JCD activists.

The forced removal followed repeated chases and confrontations between JCD and Chhatra Shibir activists inside the university's central auditorium earlier in the day, occurring during an event attended by the visiting University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman. University authorities and law enforcement personnel subsequently intervened to regain control of the situation.

Casualties and Affected Leaders

The violent skirmishes left at least 20 individuals injured, including university faculty, journalists, and student union representatives.

• JnUCSU & Student Representatives: Injured union officials include VP Md. Riazul Islam, GS Abdul Alim Arif, AGS Masud Rana, Law Affairs Secretary Faruk, and Executive Member Abdullah Al Faruk. Additionally, JnU Chhatra Shakti President Shahin Miah, General Secretary Ferdous Sheikh, and Samajtantrik Chhatra Front JnU President Ivan Tahsiv sustained injuries.

• Faculty & Media Personnel: Dr. Rifat Hasan, a faculty member from the Department of Management, was injured while attempting to de-escalate the conflict. Six journalists covering the event—Suhayel Ahmed, Mohan Khondokar, Abdullah Al Mamun, Rajab Al Fahim, Kamruzzaman Kayes, and Jewel Miah—were also injured during the attack.
