Dhaka University (DU) Deputy Registrar Lavlu Mollah Shishir was arrested from his residence around midnight on Monday (17 November) after sharing a photocard on Facebook in support of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, hours after the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced her and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death in a crimes against humanity case.

He was handed over to Shahbagh Police Station by DU's proctorial team along with several students. Confirming the arrest, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Monsur told media that Shishir posted content opposing the death sentence verdict against Sheikh Hasina.

DUCSU leader Fatima Tasnim Juma, who was involved in the handover, posted on Facebook: "We have handed Lovelu over to the police. Our stand on mass killer teachers remains the same. If anyone shows leniency towards them, they will be held accountable. We are not here for flattery or power lust; we stand on the blood of 2,000 martyrs, sworn to deliver justice for them. There is no place for traitors or treason here."

It is learnt that even over two months after last year's student-people uprising, five pro-Chhatra League officials-staff remained in DU Vice-Chancellor's Office. Under pressure from general students' complaints, they were later transferred to the Registrar's Office.

Among these five was Deputy Registrar Lavlu Mollah Shishir, who served as president of the Masterda Surya Sen Hall unit of Chhatra League during his student days.
