The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) reported a dramatic increase in its income for 2024, soaring by Tk14.55 crore compared to the previous year, according to its audit report submitted to the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday. A delegation led by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, presented the financial statement for the period from 1 January to 31 December 2024 to EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

The report details that BNP’s total income in 2024 amounted to Tk15,65,94,842, with expenditures of Tk4,80,04,820, leaving a surplus of Tk10,85,90,019. Rizvi highlighted that this marks a significant rise from 2023, when the party recorded an income of Tk1,10,80,151 and spent Tk3,65,23,970. The 2024 income reflects a nearly 14-fold increase, equivalent to an additional Tk14,55,14,691. For context, in 2022, BNP’s income was Tk5,92,04,632, with expenditures of Tk3,88,33,803.

Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), registered political parties are required to submit audited financial reports for the previous calendar year by July annually. This year, the EC sent letters to 50 registered parties, excluding the Awami League, whose registration remains suspended, urging them to comply. BNP fulfilled this obligation with its submission. The law mandates that financial statements, audited by recognized chartered accounting firms, cover the full year from 1 January to 31 December, with a deadline of 31 July for the following year’s report. Failure to submit these reports for three consecutive years risks cancellation of a party’s registration.

The substantial growth in BNP’s income underscores its financial strengthening in 2024, positioning the party with a robust surplus as it navigates Bangladesh’s evolving political landscape.
